For the first time ever, the public is being invited inside one of Yanceyville’s remarkable historic homes.
On Saturday, September 12, Preservation Caswell invites you to step behind the doors of the Wemple-Shelton House, a striking brick residence built around 1843 that beautifully represents Caswell County’s transition from Federal to Greek Revival architecture.
Inside, visitors will discover exceptional period craftsmanship, including work associated with Thomas Day, the celebrated free Black cabinetmaker and master craftsman whose work remains an important part of Caswell County’s architectural legacy.
But this is more than a beautiful old house.
The Wemple-Shelton House is also a remarkable story of historic preservation—an example of what can happen when an important place is recognized, cared for, and preserved for future generations.
